Cristiano Ronaldo, the Al Nassr star, recently revealed the two managers he believes stand above the rest in football history, leaving out two of his notable former coaches.
In an interview with Rio Ferdinand on Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, the Portuguese legend touched on his retirement, his time at Real Madrid, and the rebuilding efforts at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag.
However, the 39-year-old’s remarks about the top coaches caught the most attention.
Ronaldo, who has worked with some of the most esteemed managers in football, such as Sir Alex Ferguson, José Mourinho, and Carlo Ancelotti, named Ferguson and Pep Guardiola as the two greatest tacticians the sport has seen.
“You cannot rebuild a club without knowledge,” Ronaldo stressed when discussing the challenges facing Manchester United.
“The most successful coaches in history were players—Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola—they understand the game.”
Ronaldo’s deep respect for Ferguson comes as no surprise, given their successful partnership at United. His inclusion of Guardiola, a manager he never played under, further solidifies Guardiola’s legacy as one of football’s finest minds.
