Coalition Pays Tribute To “Democracy Live Wire” Frank Kokori

Coalition of Pro-Democracy for A Better Nigeria has described the death of the former NUPENG Secretary General, Chief Frank Ovie Kokori as a collosal loss to the nation.

The group in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Awa Bamiji said Nigerians has lost a “democracy live wire”, whose vaccum will be difficult to fill for a long time to come.

Kokori gave up the ghost at Mount Horeb Hospital in Warri, Delta State, in the early hours of Thursday, 7th December, 2023, around 01:30am at the ripe age of 80 years, after struggling with kidney disease.

Chief Kokori, who hails from Ovu in Agbin Kingdom, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, shall be remembered for union activism, and his enviable roles in the struggle for the actualization of June 12 Presidential election, believed to have been won by late Chief M.K.O Abiola.

Mr Bamiji recalled how Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu showed interest in flying him abroad for medical treatment before the unexpected happened.

The late great unionist and activist was among the awardees honoured during this year’s Yoruba National Day Celebration, marking 12th edition of Yoruba Youth Leadership Summit, organised by Grand Council of Yoruba Youths, held on Saturday, 23 September, 2023, in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The statement added, “Frank Kokori was an elderstateman, great politician, grassroots’ mobiliser, administrator per excellence. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.”
