Cameroon’s 91-year-old President, Paul Biya, returned to the country on Monday after a 42-day absence that sparked widespread speculation about his health.
The president, accompanied by his wife Chantal Biya, landed at Nsimalen International Airport in Yaoundé at around 5 p.m. local time.
Upon arrival, Biya was greeted by Secretary General Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh before quickly leaving in his motorcade. Though he did not make any public remarks, he waved to supporters from the back window of his car as he departed the airport.
The president’s extended absence had raised concerns about his well-being, leading officials to release statements affirming his good health. Authorities later banned public discussion of his health, labeling it a national security issue.
