A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has condemned the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party, warning that the internal strife could further damage its credibility and electoral prospects.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, George described the situation as “disgraceful” and a major setback for the party’s reputation. He referenced a recent Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting aimed at resolving the dispute over the position of the national secretary, which ended in chaos.
“I joined the meeting via Zoom, but we got cut off when someone physically pushed the former national youth leader of the party out. I was furious. Are we Agberos?” George lamented.
The former PDP Deputy National Chairman (South-West) expressed concerns that the ongoing turmoil could weaken the party’s chances in future elections.
“We must be careful about the public image this crisis projects. In any political system, trust is crucial. If Nigerians begin to doubt whether PDP can govern itself, how can they trust us to govern the country?” he warned.
To resolve the crisis, George recommended setting up a committee rather than engaging in blame games or unnecessary confrontations. He also dismissed comparisons with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that while the APC faces its own internal issues, PDP must take responsibility for its problems.
“Yes, APC has its crisis too. Their national chairman, Ganduje, was imposed, and they haven’t held a proper national executive meeting. But that’s not our concern. We must fix our own problems instead of making excuses. Both Atiku and Wike have erred, and we must be bold enough to tell them the truth and put an end to this nonsense,” he stated.
George’s remarks add to growing concerns over the party’s stability, especially as it seeks to reposition itself for future elections.
