Ayo Edebiri Dismisses Jennifer Lopez Feud Rumors as “Absurd”

Ayo Edebiri has dismissed rumors of a feud with Jennifer Lopez as “absurd” after a 2020 podcast clip resurfaced where she agreed with the host, calling J.Lo’s career a “scam.”

The rumors gained traction as Edebiri prepared to guest host Saturday Night Live, coinciding with Lopez being the musical guest for the week.

“That would be like Mr. Bean and Mick Jagger beefing — and I’m obviously Mr. Bean. She’s J.Lo!” Edebiri told Vanity Fair.

Edebiri addressed the controversy on SNL during a game show sketch, emphasizing, “It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast without considering the impact because you’re 24 and stupid.”

After their SNL appearance, Lopez confirmed that Edebiri had apologized, and Edebiri mentioned that Lopez was very chill and nice about it.

Despite the controversy, hosting SNL was a dream come true for Edebiri. “SNL is something that in my bones, I dreamed of as a comedian, as a young kid. That to me is a pinnacle of success,” she said.

The podcast episode in question was from Scam Goddess, where host Laci Mosley called Lopez’s career “one long scam.” Edebiri had commented, “She thinks she’s on multiple tracks, but it’s not her. I think she believes she’s still good, even though she’s not singing for most of these songs,” adding that J.Lo often didn’t make it to the studio to record.
