Demola Olarenwaju, Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has stated that former President Goodluck Jonathan is the only southern candidate capable of successfully contesting against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.
In a post shared on X on Friday, Olarenwaju argued that simply replacing Tinubu with another southern candidate would not yield favorable results.
He asserted, “The only Southerner that can run successfully against Tinubu in 2027 and carry northern votes is Goodluck Jonathan, who has just one more term to serve.”
Olarenwaju maintained that choosing another southern candidate after four years would not resonate well due to prevailing ethnic sentiments.
He noted, “Nigerians are at a point in mass societal thought where they do not believe anyone in Aso Rock can make an actual difference to their lives. They are clinging only to the bragging rights of ‘the President is from my place’ over any other imagined reality.”
It’s worth mentioning that Jonathan served one term in office before losing the presidency to former President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 elections.
