Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of land grabbing and displacing vulnerable communities to benefit his allies.
Speaking at a press briefing, Adeyanju criticized Wike’s governance style as authoritarian, alleging that the minister demolishes homes without due process, violating the rights of the poor.
He also condemned Wike’s dismissal of his criticisms as stemming from “joblessness,” adding that Wike has a history of ignoring legal procedures in land and demolition matters.
Adeyanju traced their fallout to his past criticisms of Wike during his tenure as governor of Rivers State, including opposition to his political maneuvers within the PDP. Despite resigning from politics in 2016, Adeyanju vowed to continue his activism, holding leaders accountable for policies he describes as unjust.
He also warned that Wike’s authoritarian tendencies had led to strained relationships with allies, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, warning that President Bola Tinubu may suffer the same fate.
Adeyanju reaffirmed his commitment to seeking justice for affected communities, emphasizing the importance of due process and fairness in governance.
