Late Olubadan’s Son Urges Transparent Succession Process To Uphold Tradition

Aremo Femi Balogun, the son of the late Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olalekan Balogun, has called for a peaceful and orderly succession process for the Olubadan stool, free from conflict.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Thursday, he emphasized that his father’s reign was characterized by a commitment to a tranquil transition.

Balogun’s statement comes in response to the Oyo State government’s clarification on the succession plan for the Olubadan stool, following widespread public reactions.

The government had dismissed allegations that Governor Seyi Makinde was attempting to disrupt the succession process.

The Commissioner of Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade explained that the Ibadan Chieftaincy Review Committee was established by the late Olubadan to recommend necessary reforms, and that the government’s gazette implementing the committee’s recommendations was misinterpreted by some citizens.

Mr Balogun urged the government to disclose the names of the committee members appointed by his father to dispel public doubts.

He expressed confidence in Governor Makinde’s peace-loving nature and his ability to respect the traditional chieftaincy framework, ensuring the rightful person ascends the throne when the time comes.

Mr Balogun noted that his call for a peaceful succession process is a testament to his father’s legacy and a desire to maintain stability in the traditional institution.

He added that government’s transparency in disclosing the committee members’ names would help build trust and alleviate concerns about the succession process.

By emphasizing Governor Makinde’s peace-loving nature, Balogun is appealing to the governor’s reputation for calm and measured leadership, hoping that he will respect the traditional framework and ensure a smooth transition.

“This development highlights the importance of collaboration and trust in maintaining the dignity and integrity of the Olubadan institution,” he stated.
