Polls Suggest Michelle Obama As Democrats’ Best Hope Against Trump in 2024 US Presidential Election

A recent survey has revealed that nominating former First Lady Michelle Obama as the Democratic party’s presidential candidate could be the most effective strategy to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

The party’s confidence in President Joe Biden is waning due to his health issues and underwhelming debate performances.

Party members believe that convincing Michelle Obama to run and securing her nomination could address these concerns.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday, Michelle Obama, 60, leads Trump, 78, by 11 percentage points, with 50% of registered voters supporting her compared to Trump’s 39%.

In contrast, the same poll shows Biden tied with Trump at 40% each, and Vice President Kamala Harris trailing Trump by one percentage point (43%-42%).

Trump also leads potential Democratic candidates like California Governor Gavin Newsom, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama has maintained a favorable opinion among voters, distancing herself from the re-election cycle despite her husband Barack Obama’s continued support for Biden.

Michelle Obama has refrained from endorsing Biden, even expressing reluctance during a 2022 interview. Despite Barack Obama’s efforts, including attending fundraisers and supporting Biden after a debate flop, Michelle’s support remains uncertain.

Biden, however, remains committed to his re-election campaign, reassuring his staff of his intentions to stay in the race.

The poll indicates that over half of Americans (56%) believe Biden should withdraw from the race, while 46% think Trump should do the same. Conducted from July 1-2, the Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 1,070 US adults, including 892 registered voters, with margins of error of 3.2 percentage points for all respondents and 3.5 percentage points for registered voters.
