Police Arrest Suspects In Murder of Retired Brigadier General In Abuja

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have arrested four suspects involved in the murder of retired Brigadier General Uwem Udukwere.

The general was killed by armed robbers at his home in Sunshine Estate, Abuja.

The suspects were apprehended by detectives from the Utako Police Division, led by CSP Victor Godfrey, on June 23, 2024, following credible intelligence.

The suspects, Ibrahim Rabiu, Nafiu Jamil, Aliyu Abdullahi, and Mohammed Nuhu, were paraded by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh.

They confessed to attacking, robbing, and killing Brigadier General Udukwere on June 22, 2024.

According to the police, the general was stabbed when he tried to resist the robbers with his pistol.

The knife used in the crime and the stolen phone of the deceased were recovered. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects and recover the pistols taken from the general.

One of the suspects, Ibrahim Rabiu, admitted to stabbing the general. He explained that they went to rob Udukwere and took laptops and phones.

During the struggle, Rabiu stabbed the general in the stomach, while another accomplice stabbed him in the shoulder. The general was armed and tried to defend himself, which led to the fatal confrontation.

In a related development, the police also arrested members of a kidnapping syndicate on May 26, 2024.

The suspects, Isa Mohammed Ibrahim and his brother Nasiru Mohammed, were involved in a kidnapping incident in Livestock Estate, Dei-Dei, in December 2023.

They kidnapped 17 victims and collected large ransoms before releasing them. The suspects confessed to receiving significant sums from the ransoms and revealed details about their syndicate’s operations.

The police recovered 91 rustled cattle, four sheep, and one AK-47 rifle from the kidnapping suspects.

Also, Police have arrested Sunday Musa, a chief informant and logistics supplier for the kidnapping groups.

Musa facilitated the movement of various resources for the kidnappers and managed financial transactions on their behalf. He admitted to distributing significant sums of money and confirmed the group’s extensive operations under their leader, Ardo.
