Minimum Wage: Labour Rejects FG’s 60k Offer, Makes New Demand

Organised Labour, represented by NLC and TUC, has rejectsled a new minimum wage proposal from the Federal Government.

The proposed ₦60,000 wage offer is dismissed by Labour, which also adjusts its demand from ₦497,000 to ₦494,000.

Talks on the new minimum wage witness a deadlock, with previous proposals of ₦48,000 and ₦54,000 also rejected.

Despite initial demands of ₦615,000, Labour revises its stance to ₦494,000, leading to a stalemate in negotiations.

As the May 31 deadline approaches, the Tripartite Committee fails to reach an agreement on the new minimum wage.

Labour argues that the current ₦30,000 minimum wage is inadequate, highlighting the expiration of the Minimum Wage Act of 2019.

NLC President Joe Ajaero however has criticised the government’s proposals as insufficient, emphasizing the dire economic situation faced by workers.
