Tinubu Calls For Review Of Tertiary Institutions’ Governing Boards

President Bola Tinubu has instructed a thorough review of the recently announced governing boards of tertiary institutions in Nigeria prior to the scheduled inauguration and retreat for the nominees.

The Federal Ministry of Education recently unveiled the list of nominees for chairmen, Pro-Chancellors, and members of the boards and councils of universities, Polytechnics, and colleges of education.

The inauguration and retreat for the nominees are set for May 31.

However, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy stated on Thursday that public reactions indicated the nominations did not adequately represent the federal character of the country, with some states receiving only one nomination while others received several.

“In ordering a comprehensive review of the list, President Tinubu acknowledges the nationwide feedback,” Onanuga remarked.

President Tinubu is dedicated to ensuring strict adherence to the principle of federal character as enshrined in the constitution,” Onanuga emphasized.

He also noted that the review would prioritize national representation to ensure equitable representation across all regions.

The Bauchi zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had previously criticized the appointment of governing boards across Federal Tertiary Institutions, suggesting that the earlier dissolved members be reinstated under the Bola Tinubu-led administration.
