John Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, introduced Finidi George as the new head coach of Nigeria’s national men’s soccer team, the Super Eagles.
The unveiling ceremony took place in Abuja, with officials from the Nigerian Football Federation in attendance.
Enoh expressed pride in having a Nigerian coach like Finidi George leading the team. George, a former Super Eagles player and Real Betis winger, was appointed permanently following the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro.
George had previously served as Peseiro’s assistant during the team’s runner-up finish in the African Cup of Nations. His interim tenure as coach began with friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.
His first major task as head coach will be leading the team in the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in June.
