BREAKING: Ibadan Stands Still, As Olubadan Buried Amidst Tears, Tributes

Family member disclosed how the plan to fly the late monarch abroad for medical attention was unsucessful

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba (Dr.) Mahood Olalekan Ishola Balogun has been buried at his family’s compound, Alli Iwo, Ibadan, the state capital on Friday.

WesternlifenewsNG had reported that the 42nd Olubadan died on Thursday’ night at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

The body of the late Oba, wrapped with cloth, inside a transparent glass casket, arrived at the Aliwo palace at about 3.30pm from the UCH and immediately carried to the inner chamber for necessary traditional rites.

At about 4.30 pm, he was committed to mother’s earth according to islamic rites.

The burial was witnessed by family, friends, some traditional and honorary chiefs, mogajis and mammoth crowd from all walks of life.

Dignatries in attendance were the deputy governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal who led the government functionaries which include the head of service and some commissioners to the event.

The Otun Olubadan of Ibadan, High Chief (Senator) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, was also present to pay tribute, alongside, some traditional chiefs.

Others are the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Dawud Makanjuola Akinola, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN, Chief Gbola Adetunji, Chief Kadelu Afolabi, Osi Iyalode of Ibadan and host of others.

Meanwhile, the deceased monarch, according to a family source, who craved for anonymity, disclosed to WesternlifenewsNG that “for some months, Kabiesi had been having mobility problem, which prompted the decision by his children and some members of his immediate family, to take him abroad for ptoper medical treatment.”

WesternlifenewsNG also gathered that since December 2023, the late Olubadan had been scheduled to travel abroad but due to non availability of his international passport, which was allegedly in custody of a “prominent member” of the family.

Our source disclosed that members of the immediate family, including the children of the late Oba secured another passport for him to enable him flown to United Kingdom.

His visa was ready for pick up on Monday, March 11, and was scheduled to travel within the week.

The late Oba Balogun’s health however became complicated on Tuesday and was rushed to the UCH, Ibadan, where he finally succumbed to death.
