Civil Society Organisations under the aegis of Coalition for Pro-democracy Groups, has reiterated its earlier call on President Bola Tinubu to consider a leading light of the Organisation, Comrade Awa Bamiji for ministerial appointment.
The group in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Ibrahim Musa, on Friday, said its renewed demand to the president was reinforced by the resignation of Mr Simon Lalong, the minister of Labour, after the appeal court affirmed his election as the senator representing Plateau North.
The statement recalled that the group had in September 23, 2023 during the Yoruba National Day which had in attendance the President Tinubu’s representative, and other eminent Nigerians across the country, endorsed Mr Bamiji for a ministerial position as a reward for his three decades of loyalty to the progressives.
“With the resignation of Mr Simon Lalong, it is very clear that a search for his replacement by Mr President has just begun,” the statement added.
The group noted the importance of June 12 activist in the cabinet of President Tinubu, saying Mr Bamiji fits the bill.
“Comrade Awa Bamiji is a frontline right activist with uncommon zeal for the promotion of democracy and social justice in Nigeria. No doubt, as a youth representative in many fora, his appointment, will bring lots of flavor to the administration of President Bola Tinubu,” the group stated.
