Land Dispute: Woman Goes Underground Over Alleged Threat To Life By Family Members

A community leader and prominent Muslim cleric, Alhaji Amusat Lawal has cried out over the whereabout of his daughter, Ms Sherifat Ajibola Abdulai.

Alhaji Lawal who spoke with our correspondent in Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Friday said his daughter whereabout has been unknown since some of his family members have been constantly harassing and threatening her life over a land bequeathed to her by her late grandfather, Alhaji Mayowa Lawal.

Narrating further, the religious leader said, “before my father (Sherifat’s grandfather) died in January 13, 2022, he gave my daughter, Sherifat, 10 hectares of land at Koomi Area, off The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic Road, Saki, Saki West Local Govt Area, Oyo State, which was documented and known to all my family members. Now I don’t know why some of my siblings have suddenly become envious, and resorting to murderous action.”

He added that several attempts have been made to terminate Sherifat’s life, “just because of the special favour my father extended to her”.

According to him, among many instances, Sherifat was severally attacked both spiritually and physically.

“Just of late, my daughter, on her way to Ibadan from Saki, was almost killed by some hoodlums but for divine intervention of Allah. To our utmost surprise, we later found out that some family members are behind the cruel act,” Alhaji Lawal said, amidst sobs.

He said since the last attack, Ms Abdulai has gone underground, leaving her two daughters with him.

He said the matter has been reported to police, who had called interested parties in the family, yet, “they won’t leave my daughter alone”.

Our attempt to reach Ms Abdulai on her phone has proved abortive as her mobile line was switched off.

Some family members we contacted also declined comment on the matter, saying police is investigating the issue.
