Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has revealed the discussion he and other members of defunct G5 had with President Bola Tinubu during their visit to presidential villa on Monday.
The G5 personalities include Nyesom Wike, Samuel Ortom, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Okezie Ikpeazu, former governors of Rivers, Benue, Enugu and Abia states respectively.
The group was formed as a result of Peoples Democratic Party unyeilding to to the request to drop sacked national chairman of the party, Iyorcha Ayu for a Southerner figure, as demanded by the party’s construction, stating when a region produces the presidential candidate, national chairman should come from another region.
Counting this as injustice to the South, all the former governors and Mr Makinde worked against their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 general elections in their respective states.
Speaking with newsmen after meeting with Tinubu, Makinde, said the group met Tinubu to brief him of the latest happenings in the country and reiterate their stance for fairness, equity and justice in Nigeria.
According to him, “Nation building is a very difficult task. You have to keep evaluating, you know what you’re doing, where you’re going. So, we have to keep seeing the President, you know, to let him know what is happening.
“The G-5, the Integrity Group, came to let the President know what we stood for: fairness, justice, and equity.
