A Convergence of Faith, Governance, and Academic Vision
The atmosphere inside the 1,000-capacity auditorium of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, was charged with optimism, spiritual reverence, and administrative purpose. The institution’s community converged for the August Solemn Assembly and the formal presentation of the newly appointed Chairman of the 15th Governing Council, Honourable Alhaji Rabe Bala Mudi, alongside Council Member, Hon. Comr. Osabinu Olufemi.
The solemn gathering anchored on an inspiring sermon from John 14:6 titled “Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life” by Mr. Ejike R.Y.C. established a reflective and principled tone for what staff and students alike describe as the beginning of a transformative era in the polytechnic’s governance.
The Profile of a Distinguished Leader: Dr. Bala Rabi Mudi
Bringing over three decades of unbroken service in public education, school administration, and quality assurance, Dr. Bala Rabi Mudi’s appointment represents a seamless fusion of administrative acumen and academic vision.
Born in 1969 and a devoted father, Dr. Mudi’s career has been defined by a deep-seated commitment to institutional development.
He commenced his education at Riminguza Primary School, Katsina State, before completing his secondary education at Government Secondary School, Mani. He obtained his Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from Katsina College of Education, began teaching in 1989, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Bayero University, Kano. He later secured a Master’s degree in Education Management from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
Dr. Mudi served in key administrative capacities at Katsina Teachers College and rose to become the Director of Quality Assurance in the Katsina State Ministry of Education, a position he held until his retirement in 2024.
Post-retirement, he serves as a Facilitator with the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna. Notably, he is the immediate past Chairman of the Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor of the National University of Technology, Abuja, bringing high-level tertiary governance experience to Federal Polytechnic Nekede
Striking Remarks from the Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe
Welcoming the Council Chairman during an executive reception at the Rectorate prior to the assembly, the Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe expressed appreciation for Dr. Mudi’s warm disposition, readiness to identify with the Polytechnic community, and rich administrative track record.
Addressing the audience at the Institution’s auditorium, Dr. Igbokwe remarked: ”We are delighted to receive you as the new Chairman of the 15th Governing Council of our great institution. Your presence marks a new chapter of purposeful leadership, excellence, and sustainable development. We assure you of the unwavering cooperation and support of Management and the Internal Council members to ensure that the harmonious relationship characterizing this institution’s governance continues.

In her address to the wider assembly, the Rector commended the impressive turnout of Deans, Directors, staff, and students. Striking a vital pragmatic note on campus sustainability, Dr. Igbokwe urged staff and students to conserve power and desist from illegal electrical connections in hostels to prevent fire hazards and sustain the campus power supply.
The Rector, Dr. Igbokwe, in summing up her address, diligently recognized and welcomed the new Council Member Hon. Comr. Osabinu Olufemi to the institution.
Union Leaders & Stakeholders Rally Support for Industrial Harmony
The formal presentation was highlighted by goodwill messages from representatives of the staff unions (ASUP, SSANIP, NASU, NOTSUP), Internal Council Members, Deans, and the Students’ Union Government (SUG).
Commending Dr. Igbokwe’s management for sustaining industrial harmony, restoring steady electricity, and creating an enabling academic environment, the union leaders welcomed Hon. Mudi warmly:
On Industrial Peace & Staff Welfare Union leaders commended the existing climate of mutual respect on campus and pledged their unreserved cooperation to sustain peace, worker welfare, and uninterrupted academic calendars.
On Resource Mobilization & Partnership They assured the Council Chairman of the availability of highly competent manpower across all academic and administrative cadres, urging him to maintain an open-door policy and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders.
Reinforcing these sentiments, the Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Science and Technology, Abuja, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, who previously worked with Dr. Mudi described him as an experienced administrator capable of driving meaningful institutional growth. Prof. Ahaneku also highlighted the Federal Government’s Diaspora Bridge Initiative as a strategic framework to connect tertiary institutions with international opportunities.

Responding to the warm reception, Hon. Alhaji Rabe Bala Mudi expressed appreciation to the Rector, Management, and polytechnic community. He pledged to deploy his experience, network, and resources toward advancing the institution’s core mandate.
“Our administration will be guided by mutual respect, transparency, integrity, fairness, and accountability,” Dr. Mudi affirmed.
“Council and Management are joint partners with a shared responsibility for institutional development. We shall place strong emphasis on student welfare, sound character, and quality education while ensuring that staff welfare receives total and serious attention.”
The landmark event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Charles Chukwudi Elvis Obichere, marking the seamless transition to a promising governance era at Federal Polytechnic Nekede.
