The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has formally submitted the name of Ibrahim Adamu Bala as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, with emerging details indicating that the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, played a key role in the nomination.

Checks by WesternLifeNewsNG showed that Bala, who hails from Bauchi State, was nominated by Governor Mohammed as part of ongoing political consultations aimed at strengthening the APM’s presidential ticket and broadening its appeal in the North-East. Ibrahim Adamu Bala’s name has already appeared on the nomination portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), confirming his emergence as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.

Although neither the APM nor Governor Makinde has officially explained the considerations behind the choice, political observers believe the nomination reflects efforts to build a balanced North-South ticket ahead of the 2027 general election. The selection of a Bauchi indigene is also expected to boost the party’s presence in the North-East, a region regarded as strategically important in presidential elections.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who also left  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for APM and, has remained an influential figure in Nigeria’s political landscape. A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and senator representing Bauchi South, Mohammed has maintained strong political networks across the country since becoming governor in 2019.

The development is expected to fuel fresh political conversations over emerging alliances ahead of the 2027 polls, particularly as political parties continue to reposition and build coalitions in preparation for the elections.

Governor Seyi Makinde, serving his second term as Governor of Oyo State, has increasingly been mentioned in national political calculations ahead of the 2027 presidential election. His emergence as the APM’s presidential candidate signals a significant development for the relatively smaller political party as it seeks to challenge the dominance of Nigeria’s major political parties.

With the submission of Ibrahim Adamu Bala’s name to INEC, the APM has completed one of the key constitutional requirements for presenting its presidential ticket, setting the stage for intensified political activities as the 2027 election season gathers momentum.
