Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has renewed his call for what he described as a broad-based citizens’ movement aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s political and economic structures.
Sowore made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing journalists at the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to him, meaningful national transformation would only occur when ordinary Nigerians collectively demand accountability and systemic change from those in authority.
He argued that entrenched political interests have continued to dominate the nation’s resources, insisting that power would not change hands without sustained civic pressure.
“Nobody will hand over power willingly,” he said.
Sowore further stressed that citizens must be prepared to challenge what he termed a culture of impunity and elite control.
The activist maintained that a mass-driven movement would pave the way for equitable distribution of resources, improved access to education, functional healthcare systems, and infrastructure development.
He added that such reforms are necessary for Nigeria to compete favourably with other African nations and meet global standards.
