Royal Endorsement As Okanlomo Odu’a Veterans Football League Trophy Receives Chief Sanusi’s Blessing

The Okanlomo Odu’a Veterans Football League has received a major boost following the royal endorsement of Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the Okanlomo Odu’a and Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland.

On Monday, January 26, 2026, the Oyo State Coordinator of the Pacesetter Humanitarian Support (PHS) Organisation, Mogaji Sunday Paul Igbinsola, formally presented the league’s trophy to Chief Sanusi at Ilaji Resort Farm, Akanran, Ibadan, for royal blessings ahead of the competition.

The presentation marked a significant moment for the league as Chief Sanusi pledged full royal and moral support for the tournament and all participating teams.

He described the initiative as commendable, particularly for its focus on veterans who have contributed to the growth of football over the years.

The Okanlomo Odu’a Veterans Football League, strictly open to players aged 50 and above, is scheduled to kick off on February 15, 2026, at Ilaji Resort Hotel, Oloyo Village, Akanran, Ibadan. Four teams are expected to compete in Week One of the maiden 2026 edition.

While receiving the trophy, Chief Sanusi emphasized the importance of grassroots sports development and urged participants to pay close attention to their health. He advised players to regularly monitor their blood pressure and sugar levels to remain fit and avoid health challenges during the competition.

In his remarks, Mogaji Igbinsola commended Chief Sanusi for his consistent philanthropic gestures and commitment to grassroots sports development. He noted that football remains a vital sector in Nigeria’s overall sports development and assured that the league would enjoy strong organizational and media support as it debuts.

Teams that have already indicated interest in participating in the competition include Oyo Alaafin Ambassadors (Oyo), Wesley Ambassadors (Elekuro, Ibadan), Ibadan City All Stars, UI All Stars (Ibadan), and Consolidated Coaches from Osun State.

The league is expected to rekindle passion for the game among veterans while promoting fitness, unity, and community development through sports.
