The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, recently witnessed another milestone in its institutional development as the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) successfully concluded an intensive on-site verification and capturing exercise for the institution’s newly recruited staff.

The verification, which formed part of the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) process, was held between Tuesday 28th and Thursday 30th October, 2025, marking the final phase of a recruitment and onboarding exercise that began in July 2025.

The exercise was carefully piloted by the Registrar, Mr. Stanley Ugochukwu Njoku, who led his Registry Division team with administrative precision, ensuring that all newly engaged staff were properly documented. The process was further strengthened through effective collaboration with the Bursary Division, whose officers worked hand-in-hand with the OAGF team to guarantee seamless data capturing and verification.

According to Mr. Njoku, the verification exercise was a mandatory federal requirement to integrate new employees into the national payroll system. He commended the cooperation of the Bursary Division and the resilience of the Accountant General’s field officers who worked tirelessly during the three-day verification.

However, prior to the commencement of the exercise and to ensure adequate participation by the newly employed staff, the Registrar sternly warned that failure to participate in the exercise ultimately results in voiding of the appointment.”

This verification is not optional. It is the gateway to your inclusion in the national wage system. Any staff who failed to participate in the mandatory verification exercise will not be payrolled and risk withdrawal of his/her appointment,” the Registrar cautioned.

Meanwhile, the Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe, in company with the Registrar and the Bursar, took time to personally appraise the verification process, interacting with both the visiting OAGF officials and the newly employed staff.

She expressed profound appreciation to the Accountant General’s Office team for their diligence and commitment, noting that the exercise demonstrated the Federal Government’s transparency and accountability in managing institutional human resources.

“We sincerely thank the verification team from the Accountant General’s Office for the great sacrifices they made to ensure our staff were adequately captured,” the Rector said.

“Your efforts will not only facilitate timely salary processing but also strengthen the credibility of our payroll system. We appreciate your dedication and professionalism.”

Addressing the newly recruited employees, Dr. Igbokwe urged them to see their employment as a divine opportunity to serve and contribute meaningfully to the institution’s growth.

“This is your chance to add value. FederalPolytechnic Nekede is a centre of excellence, and every staff member must justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating competence, discipline, and innovation. Let your performance prove that your selection was a worthy investment,” she charged.

As the Rector celebrates her first anniversary in office, she noted with pride that her administration has opened a tremendous floodgate of employment opportunities for a large number of our youths, across various cadres, to strengthen the Polytechnic’s workforce. This strategic expansion, she emphasized, is aimed at enhancing productivity, operational efficiency, and institutional excellence.

With the completion of the GIFMIS verification, Federal Polytechnic Nekede continues to demonstrate its commitment to transparency, merit-driven growth, and administrative integrity, hallmarks of the Rector’s leadership in her drive to reposition the institution as one of Nigeria’s leading centers of technical and entrepreneurial education.
