The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stirred debate with his latest remark that none of the current governors of the Peoples Democratic Party emerged without his support, including Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, the former Rivers State Governor insisted that his influence and political interventions were pivotal in the emergence of several governors of the PDP.
Wike, who played a key role in the G5 governors’ movement during the 2023 elections, noted that his contributions to the political success of others have often been downplayed. He, however, stressed that leaders like Makinde could not deny the role he played in their rise to power.
“I can tell you without fear of contradiction that there is no sitting governor of the PDP today that I did not support one way or the other. People may not like to hear it, but that is the truth,” Wike declared.
He added that politics should not only be about self-interest but also about building bridges and strengthening alliances. According to him, those he supported should at least acknowledge his sacrifices, even if they do not align with him politically today.
