Ogun Govt Marks Gbenga Daniel’s Home, Hotel For Demolition Amid Political Rift

The Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, has issued a three-day demolition notice on the Sagamu residence and luxury hotel of former governor and serving senator, Gbenga Daniel, intensifying the political rivalry between both men ahead of the 2027 elections, Peoples Gazette reports.

According to documents obtained by The Gazette, the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority served a Notice of Contravention and a Notice to Quit on Daniel’s Asoludero Court residence and nearby Conference Hotel, citing alleged lack of planning permits and non-compliance with the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022. The notices, delivered on Friday, August 8, gave occupants three days to vacate before demolition.

Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, told The Gazette the properties were completed in 2004, when Daniel was governor, making it “impossible” for them to lack required approvals. He described the demolition threat as politically motivated, noting that the ultimatum expires over a weekend when government offices are closed.

The law cited provides for a ₦120,000 fine for contravention, not demolition. This move follows a 2023 incident where Daniel’s wife’s property in Ijebu-Ode was demolished under controversial circumstances, despite a subsequent court victory against the government.

According to the newspaper, the insiders revealed that the rift stems from Abiodun’s alleged plan to contest the Ogun East Senate seat in 2027 currently held by Daniel, prompting efforts to edge him out of the APC.
