Veteran Nigerian music star, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has reignited public debate with his candid take on male fidelity, asserting that men are biologically not wired to remain sexually faithful to one woman.
Speaking on the latest episode of the 234 Mzansi podcast hosted by Ani Emmanuel, also known as Nedu Wazobia, the 49-year-old singer maintained that while a man can deeply love and respect one woman, remaining sexually exclusive is often contrary to his natural instincts.
“I’ve said this before and got into trouble for it, but I’ll say it again: man was not built to be sexually with just one woman,” 2Baba stated. “A man can genuinely love a woman completely but still find it difficult to be with only her sexually. That’s just the man’s biology.”
He acknowledged that while some men may choose to live differently, the natural tendencies of most are shaped by their biology. “A man has many seeds and can’t just drop them for one woman,” he added.
His remarks have stirred fresh reactions, especially in light of his high-profile personal life and his past marriage to Nollywood actress Annie Idibia. Without delving into specifics, 2Baba confirmed their separation, describing it as mutual.
“Annie and I had a good bond. She’s an amazing and wonderful person, but it wasn’t working anymore,” he said. “We gave it our best, but sometimes love alone is not enough. We have our understanding.”
He also used the opportunity to encourage couples to be honest about the state of their relationships rather than remain in unfulfilling unions due to societal expectations.
“Many people are struggling in marriages but are afraid to leave because of what society will say. That’s what I call ‘living in bondage.’ If a marriage is no longer working despite all efforts, it’s better to walk away than live a lie,” he advised.
2Baba also spoke about the mothers of his children, describing them as “amazing people,” and emphasised that each of them had their unique strengths and beauty. Among them is his current partner, Natasha Osawaru, whom he praised for her character and emotional maturity.
“I’m not particular about physical appearance, though it’s a plus. What matters to me is having someone I can talk to without fear, someone who won’t get angry unnecessarily, and someone I can laugh with. That’s why I’m with Natasha,” he said.
Despite frequent scrutiny from the public and online critics, 2Baba declared that his focus remains on his children and living in peace.
“People create unnecessary drama, but I don’t pay attention to online noise. My priority is my children’s wellbeing,” he maintained.
