The grieving father of 19-year-old Timilehin Opesusi, who died after allegedly ingesting rodent poison following her UTME result, has blamed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for her death and is demanding the release of her “actual” result.
In an emotional interview with Channels Television, Mr. Femi Opesusi recounted the heartbreaking events of May 12, 2025, when his daughter, a prospective biochemistry student, took her life after seeing a score of 146 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) — a result she insisted did not belong to her.
“She panicked and kept telling me, ‘Daddy, this is not my result!’” he said. “She scored 190 last year and was certain this year’s score was a mistake.”
Mr. Opesusi said he tried to reassure her and promised to cover her school fees at Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), where she had hoped to gain admission. But within an hour, he received a distressing call from his older daughter informing him that Timilehin had been rushed to the hospital after consuming a substance known as ‘Push Out’ — a common rodenticide.
“I saw her on the hospital bed via video call… struggling with death. I knew she wouldn’t make it,” he said tearfully.
“She regretted it; she was fighting to stay alive,” he added.
Timilehin, described as brilliant, gentle, and hardworking, had been combining her education with hairdressing and was known for styling the hair of lecturers at LASUSTECH while awaiting admission. She had previously been offered admission to the Federal University, Offa, but her father had advised against it due to distance and cost.
Now, Mr. Opesusi says he regrets that decision.
“No government official or JAMB representative has reached out to me. I don’t want anything from them — just my daughter’s true result. That was her last request,” he said.
He insists the result she received was tampered with and holds JAMB responsible for the tragedy.
“She said, ‘Daddy, go and fight for my result,’” he recalled. “That score cannot bring her back, but I will not rest until I get it.”
Mr. Opesusi also dismissed rumours that Timilehin was offered admission shortly after her death, saying he has been unable to access her JAMB portal since the incident.
“She was the child that carried my name. Now I’ve used her school fees to bury her.”
