A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has called for the investigation of the Adamawa State gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Aisha Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, by the police.
According to the senior lawyer, APC governorship candidate knew more than she claimed on the illegal declaration of election results by the disgraced Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Barrister Yunusa Hudu Ari.
Falana stated this on Thursday while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program.
WesternLifeNews reported that the suspended REC of Adamawa last Sunday caused panic in Adamawa and Nigeria in general, when he, having performed the role specially designed for returning officer, announced Binani as the winner of the election, while collation are still ongoing.
His declaration was however declared null, void and of no effect by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The INEC had since announced the incumbent governor and the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Ahmadu Fintiri as the winner of the governorship election.
Falana however said, police should take a step further by inviting and investigating Binani for making that illegal acceptance speech, when she fully aware that collations are still going on.
According to him, ”With respect to the acceptance speech, the acceptance speech already confirmed that she was party to the charade. She has to be brought in by the police and investigated. How did you prepare a speech if you did not know that you were going to be declared the winner because, at that stage, the coalition had not been concluded?
Falana also berated the Nigerian Television Authority NTA for broadcasting Binani’s acceptance speech, slamming the National Broadcasting Commission for keeping silent on the matter.
“The last point is the role of NTA, the NTA televised the acceptance speech. I expect the NBC to move in speedily and sanction the NTA because, at that time, collation was still ongoing,” he said.
