The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, recently hosted the inauguration of the 75th District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), marking a significant milestone in promoting professional excellence and academic collaboration.
The event, held on Friday, December 20, 2024, featured ICAN’s 60th President, Chief Davison C.S. Alaribe, FCA, alongside the National Working Executive Team, in a courtesy visit to the institution’s Rector, Dr. Mrs. Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe.
Chief Alaribe commended the synergy between ICAN members and the polytechnic, describing it as a key factor in selecting the institution for the inauguration and investiture of the first Chairman of the ICAN Nekede District Society.
As a highlight of the occasion, the ICAN President conferred an honorary title, “Sister of Chartered Accountants (SCA),” on the Rector in recognition of her steadfast support for professional accountants and ICAN’s initiatives.
In his address, Chief Alaribe emphasized ICAN’s commitment to advancing financial literacy and professional development. He encouraged accounting students at the polytechnic to pursue ICAN certifications to boost their career opportunities.
To demonstrate this commitment, ICAN donated corporate accounting textbooks and laptops equipped with advanced accounting software to the institution’s Bursary Department, further underlining their dedication to educational advancement.
Mrs. Igbokwe expressed profound gratitude for the honor and reaffirmed the polytechnic’s partnership with ICAN to foster professional growth among staff and students.
She also celebrated the appointment of Dr. Calistus Nkwocha, FCA, as the first Chairman of the ICAN Nekede District Society, describing him as a beacon of professionalism and leadership.
The inauguration, held at the Staff Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society (SMCS) Building, attracted the presence of all principal officers of the polytechnic.
Declaring the event open, the Rector lauded ICAN’s efforts and directed her Special Assistant on Media Matters to highlight ICAN’s contributions within the institution.
The Chief Librarian, Dr. Charles Obichere, delivered a vote of thanks, applauding ICAN’s impactful donations and their role in enhancing academic and professional resources.
The event was celebrated as a landmark achievement, reinforcing the Federal Polytechnic Nekede’s status as a center for academic distinction and professional collaboration.
