The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Dr. (Mrs.) Basilia Nkem Igbokwe, has added another accolade to her growing list of achievements.
Within her first 100 days in office as the 9th substantive Rector, Dr. Igbokwe was honored by her alma mater, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, with the prestigious Iconic Ambassador Alumni Award.
According to a statement signed by the Rector’s Special Adviser on Media Matters, Noble Uchegbu Uchechukwu Zachariah, the award ceremony, held at Hilton Leisure Resort and Hotels, Awka, Anambra State, was organized by the Federal Polytechnic Oko Alumni Association.
It recognized Dr. Igbokwe’s exemplary leadership and dedication, which reflect the ideals of her alma mater.
The National President of the Alumni Association, Nze Henry Chukwuka Nnebe, and the General Secretary, Mr. Kenechukwu Nwakenyi, stated that the award celebrates Dr. Igbokwe’s commitment to excellence and her contributions to elevating the reputation of the institution.
Represented by the Federal Polytechnic Nekede Orator, Dr. Anayo Uhiara, who is also the Dean of the School of General Studies, Dr. Igbokwe expressed her gratitude for the recognition.
She credited her alma mater for shaping her administrative prowess and pledged to continue supporting its initiatives.
This latest honor comes just days before Dr. Igbokwe’s 100th day in office, a period marked by significant achievements and positive changes at Federal Polytechnic Nekede.

The event also featured the 2nd Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) Annual Lecture Series, where the challenges facing polytechnic administration in Nigeria were discussed.
The keynote address, delivered by Prof. Ugochukwu Nzewi, a former Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, highlighted the critical roles of supervisory bodies, governing councils, and alumni associations in overcoming administrative hurdles.
