The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revoked a land allocation previously granted to Julius Berger in Abuja’s Katampe District.
Wike revealed this during the official flag-off ceremony for the construction of 40 judges’ quarters in Abuja on Monday, attended by notable figures such as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem.
Wike explained that while searching for available land for the judges’ quarters, he came across an undeveloped site allocated to Julius Berger 15 to 20 years ago. After confirming with authorities that no development had taken place, the minister issued a revocation letter to the construction firm.
Wike noted that despite dining with the Managing Director of Julius Berger the night before, he did not mention the land until the next day, when the revocation was made official in the interest of public good.
According to the minister, government cannot allow land to remain unused for such a long period, expressing relief that it was now available for the new judges’ quarters.
