SEMEF Commends Tinubu On Appointment Of Igbokwe As FEDPONEK Rector, Dismisses Media Propaganda

The South East Media Editors Forum (SEMEF) has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Dr. Basilia Igbokwe as the ninth Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State.

In a statement released and signed by SEMEF’s National Coordinator, Don Uba, after an emergency meeting in Owerri, SEMEF urged the president to disregard media reports slamming the appointment.

The forum condemned what it described as baseless allegations from a group using the media and judiciary to challenge Igbokwe’s appointment.

SEMEF emphasised that Igbokwe emerged as the best candidate after a transparent selection process, and her appointment was duly ratified by the institution’s Governing Council before being approved by the president.

Describing Igbokwe as a seasoned academic and effective administrator, SEMEF highlighted her extensive contributions to the development of the institution.

The forum called the media attacks “unwarranted” and noted that the Polytechnic’s staff, students, and host community are in full support of her leadership.

SEMEF also dismissed claims that her appointment violated the Polytechnic Act, attributing the accusations to jealousy and unfounded rumors.
