MohBad: Legal Team Continues Fight For Justice Amid Challenges, One Year After Death

One year after the mysterious death of Nigerian rapper and songwriter Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as MohBad, the legal team representing his family remains steadfast in their pursuit of justice.

In an interview with The Punch, Taiwo Odumosu, the head of the family’s legal team, discussed the slow progress in the investigation, legal hurdles, and the family’s commitment to uncovering the truth.

Odumosu revealed that a second autopsy and toxicology test, ordered by the court, is currently underway. Forensic experts have taken samples abroad for toxicology testing in Europe, avoiding American laboratories due to concerns about controversy surrounding the first autopsy.

He noted that several pathologists initially declined to assist due to pressure from powerful individuals.

Despite these setbacks, the legal team continues to face significant challenges, particularly from the Nigerian Police.

Odumosu however blamed the police for what he described as a “shoddy investigation” and lack of cooperation adding,  the police have yet to release critical documents and exhibits needed for further forensic analysis, despite repeated court orders and requests.

The investigation’s slow pace has delayed the family’s decision to lay MohBad to rest.

Odumosu emphasised that the Aloba family is determined to wait for the results of the autopsy and toxicology tests before making any decisions about burial.

According to him, the legal team is also investigating discrepancies surrounding the exact time of MohBad’s death, as conflicting accounts have emerged, believing the second autopsy will provide more clarity on this matter.

Addressing concerns about the involvement of powerful individuals in the case, Odumosu stated that the legal team would not be intimidated and would continue to seek justice.

The court has issued subpoenas for several key figures, including Naira Marley and Sam Larry, to testify in the case. Should they fail to comply, the legal team plans to pursue further legal action to compel their appearance.

Looking ahead, the family remains committed to ensuring that those responsible for MohBad’s death are held accountable, with the legal team urging for a thorough and transparent investigation.

He said the public, too, has shown immense support, with many contributing resources to help the family in their fight for justice.
