A foremost educationist, Dr. Basilia Igbokwe has been officially appointed as the ninth substantive Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, according to a statement released by the Minister of State for the Federal Ministry of Education.

ECN Media reports that this appointment marks a significant leadership change, with Dr. Igbokwe expected to lead the institution into a new era of academic excellence and innovation.

Her appointment highlights her vast contributions and expertise in the field of education, which are expected to strengthen the institution’s academic foundation.

As the second female to hold this prestigious position, Dr. Igbokwe’s professional journey underscores her standing as an enigmatic leader with a robust academic and administrative background.

Born on September 5, 1970, in Imo State, Dr. Igbokwe’s academic achievements include a BA and MA in English from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the University of Uyo, respectively, alongside a PhD in English from the University of Uyo.

Additionally, she holds an MSc and PGD in Public Administration from Abia State University, Uturu, with numerous other certifications in education, administration, and computer science.

Her career, which spans over two decades, began as a part-time lecturer at Imo State University. Since joining Federal Polytechnic Nekede in 2008, she has held various leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Head of the Department of Humanities, Director of Welfare and Social Responsibility, and most recently, Rector of the noble institution.

Dr. Igbokwe has also made significant contributions to academia through her numerous publications in national and international journals. Her research encompasses topics such as English language teaching, gender issues, mother-tongue interference, literacy, and sustainable development.

She has authored and co-authored books and delivered papers at international conferences.

In her new capacity as Rector, she is expected to champion academic growth, inspire innovation, and further the institution’s development. With her appointment, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri is poised for a transformative period, driven by her vision and commitment to educational excellence.
