Tinubu Approves 300% Salary Increase For Judicial Officers

In a decisive move that underscores his administration’s focus on workers’ welfare, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Judicial Office Holders’ Salaries and Allowances Bill into law.

The newly signed legislation introduces a significant 300 percent salary hike for judicial officers at both federal and state levels, marking a landmark achievement in the administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance the living standards of public servants.

The announcement was made by Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, who maintained that this decision reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of Nigerian workers.

“This extraordinary move,” Lado noted, “demonstrates Mr. President’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of our nation’s workforce, mirroring his recent approval of the new National Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000.”

The new Act amends the existing legislation, particularly the Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act of 2002, by removing judicial officers from its provisions and instead establishing a distinct framework for their salaries and allowances.

This change is seen as a response to the evolving needs of the judiciary and a recognition of the crucial role they play in upholding justice in Nigeria.

Lado praised the President for his visionary leadership, noting that the salary increase for judicial officers is not just a financial adjustment but a strategic investment in the integrity and efficiency of Nigeria’s justice system.

“By enhancing the financial well-being of our judicial officers, President Tinubu is setting a new standard for leadership that values the contributions of all Nigerian workers,” he added.

The approval of this bill also reflects the administration’s broader commitment to ensuring fair compensation across all sectors, reinforcing the principle that those who serve the nation deserve to be justly rewarded.

The President’s decision has been lauded as a key step toward building a more prosperous and equitable Nigeria.

Lado also extended his appreciation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abass Tajudeen, and the members of the 10th National Assembly for their role in the swift passage of the bill.

He urged judicial officers to continue their crucial work in delivering justice swiftly and impartially, reinforcing the judiciary as the bedrock of fairness for all Nigerians.
