Pastor Kayode Pitan has been appointed as the new pastor of the City of David Parish in Lagos, part of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
He succeeds Pastor Charles Kpandei, who served as interim pastor following the suspension of Pastor Idowu Iluyomade.
Church Times Nigeria reported on Sunday that Pitan’s appointment comes in the wake of Iluyomade’s suspension due to unspecified allegations. While initial reports suggested Pitan had already assumed leadership, it was Kpandei who had been managing the parish since June.
According to a reliable source within the RCCG, the church’s governing council made the decision to appoint Pitan during its recent convention.
Before this new role, Pitan was the Pastor in Charge of the Tabernacle of David in Region 51 and also served as the Regional Pastor.
Pitan brings extensive corporate experience to his new position, which is expected to benefit the management of the Trinity Tower project and the overall leadership of the City of David parish.
With his appointment, he now oversees Region 20, with the City of David serving as its headquarters. Pastor Ben Akabueze will assist him as the Assistant Pastor in Charge of Region 20.
Kpandei, who temporarily led the City of David, has returned to his previous role as Pastor in Charge of Region 11 in Lekki.
Church Times noted that Pitan’s appointment officially concludes Iluyomade’s tenure at the City of David parish.
Pitan, who completed his graduate studies in the U.S. before returning to Nigeria 37 years ago, has a notable background in banking and finance.
He previously worked at Citi Bank before founding his own finance house, which collapsed in 1993, leading to a $3 million loss and a subsequent deepening of his Christian faith.
He later served as Managing Director and CEO of the Bank of Industry (BoI) from July 2015, where he focused on industrialization and SME support. Pitan is known for his strategic leadership, having led the bank for five years before beginning a second term in 2022.
He resigned in 2023 amid a government reshuffle under President Bola Tinubu.
