The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for internal candidates, revealing that 60.55% of students secured credit passes in both English Language and Mathematics.
This marks a significant achievement for 828,284 out of the 1,367,736 candidates who sat for the examination.
Announcing the results on Thursday at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, noted that a total of 1,376,436 students registered for the exam, which took place between June 19 and July 26, 2024.
The results were released 55 days after the final paper was written, following the marking exercise that ran from August 19 to September 8.
Further analysis of the results shows that 83.9% of candidates, regardless of English and Mathematics performance, earned five credits or more, signaling a strong overall performance.
Prof. Wushishi also highlighted a decline in examination malpractice cases, with 8,407 candidates implicated in 2024, compared to 12,030 in 2023.
Despite this improvement, 40 schools across 17 states were found guilty of mass cheating and will face a disciplinary panel.
Additionally, 21 supervisors were blacklisted for offenses ranging from extortion to drunkenness.
