The management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede has raised alarm over a fraudulent recruitment message circulating online, urging unsuspecting job applicants to resubmit sensitive employment documents via WhatsApp.
The institution has categorically disowned the message, warning the public against falling victim to the scam.
In an urgent statement issued through the Rector’s Media Desk, the Polytechnic described the viral message as “a serious security and legitimacy concern,” insisting, it did not originate from the institution.
“The Federal Polytechnic Nekede does not and will never request for employment documents to be submitted through private WhatsApp numbers,” the statement read.
“Claims of a ‘lost phone’ as justification for the resubmission of personal data is not only unprofessional but also a clear sign of fraud,” it added.
The Rector’s office cautioned applicants against sharing sensitive credentials such as certificates, identification cards, and contact details with unverifiable phone numbers. Doing so, it warned, could expose individuals to identity theft, financial fraud, and long-term damage.
The statement further urged the public to verify any directive concerning recruitment through official Polytechnic channels, such as institutional email addresses, formal memos, or the school’s website—before taking any action.
The institution also reiterated that employment opportunities at Federal Polytechnic Nekede are not for sale, and warned that anyone engaging in monetary transactions in exchange for employment does so at their own risk.
“Do not fall victim to opportunistic exploitation,. Protect your career and personal data with utmost vigilance,” said Noble Uchegbu Uchechukwu Zachariah, Special Assistant to the Rector on Media Matters.
The Polytechnic urged members of the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity related to recruitment to the appropriate authorities.
